A range of precision stainless steel CERTIFIED Wet Film Thickness Mil Gauges designed to quickly and easily measure the thickness of coatings immediately after they have been applied to a substrate.
These gauges are also commonly known as: Combs, MIL Gauges, Step Gauges and Notched Gauges.
Each gauge is individually marked with a unique serial number and packaged with a certificate of accuracy with the same serial number as the gauge. The certificate of accuracy is traceable to NIST ( National Institute of Standards and Technology ).
These gauges are suitable for use with most quality programs such as IS09000 that require certified measuring tools.

The Wet Film Thickness Mil Gauges will measure the wet film thickness of most organic coatings including paints, resins, lacquers, varnishes, gel coat, etc.. The thickness of powder type coatings may also be measured before curing with these gauges.
The wet film thickness (WFT) of a coating determines the dried film thickness (DFT) of the coating on the substrate after it has cured. It is important that the correct amount of coating is applied to a substrate to ensure that the specified dried film thickness is achieved. The appropriate wet film thickness for a specified dry film thickness is easily calculated. 'Click Here' for a listing of formulas.
Applying the correct amount of coating onto most substrates is important. This can be easily verified when the coating is applied by taking measurements of the wet film thickness with these gauges. Consistency of coatings, application methods, thinners/reducers required, etc. may be corrected at the time of application which avoids costly rework. Eliminate defects caused by incorrect dry film thickness, cracking, wrinkling, blisters, etc... For a given coating the variables of wet film thickness, dried film thickness and amount of thinner/reducer required may be easily calculated. These Wet Film Thickness Mil Gauges measure the wet film thickness from 4 mils to 40 mils (0.004" to 0.040") and are quick, easy and simple to use even in unusual and demanding locations. The Wet Film Thickness Mil Gauges are precision manufactured from hardened grade 301 stainless steel, all markings and graphics are etched and black filled. These gauges will survive harsh use, the graphics will not rub off (even sanding the part will not remove the markings, graphics, etc.). These gauges are not designed as 'throw-away' items and should not be compared to gauges that are 'printed' or silk-screened.
The overall size of the gauges is 2.25" x 1.070" x 0.030" (57.15mm x 27.18mm x .76mm). Each gauge has eight different measurement notches; select only the one you require or purchase a set of three to cover all your application needs.
These gauges meet the requirements of the following International Standards:
ISO 2808-7B, ASTM D4414-A, BS 3900-C5 Method 7B, NF T30-125.
